A man and two women have been sentenced to day-fines for throwing tomatoes and red onions at Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M) during a debate in the Riksdag on October 3, writes Dagens Nyheter.

In the Riksdag, a debate was underway about Gaza. The man has denied the crime and, when asked why he threw the tomato, says he did it to draw attention to the situation in Palestine.

A video recording from inside the chamber shows the man standing up and throwing an object with his left hand. He is then apprehended by a Riksdag guard and led out of the room, according to the police investigation.

Malmer Stenergard rushed out of the Riksdag chamber after tomatoes and red onions landed two rows behind her.

The 37-year-old man is sentenced to 60 day-fines in the Stockholm District Court for disrupting a public proceeding. Two 45-year-old women are sentenced to 30 day-fines for the same crime.
