The Swedish long-distance swimmer Victor Johansson will not participate in the 10 kilometer open water event in Seine. This is reported by Dagens Nyheter.

The Swedish Olympic Committee's medical team has recommended me not to participate, says Johansson to the newspaper.

The news comes just one day before the competition is decided.

The quality of the water in Seine has been debated, both before and during the Olympic Games.

After the triathlon events completed their swimming in the river, the Swedish Olympic Committee confirmed that Swedish athlete Tilda Månsson had fallen ill with vomiting after ingesting E.coli bacteria.

After having a close dialogue with the Swedish Olympic Committee's medical team, Johansson has now made the decision not to participate in the competition.

After weighing their recommendation against all known risks, it felt like the best decision was to pull out. Therefore, it is now decided that I will not swim, he says.
