The Dominican star has agreed to a record-breaking 15-year contract, worth 765 million dollars, reported several American media outlets on Sunday.

There are no official lists of the largest contracts in sports history, but Soto's contract is said to be the largest ever, regardless of sport.

ESPN reports that Soto's contract may eventually be worth over 800 million dollars, if certain details are fulfilled.

The 26-year-old will also receive a sign-on bonus of 75 million dollars, equivalent to approximately 822 million kronor.

Soto's contract with Mets thus beats the previous record contract in the American baseball league. In December last year, the Japanese star Shohei Ohtani signed a ten-year contract with Los Angeles Angels, worth 700 million dollars, approximately 7.67 billion kronor.
