The Scot Robert MacIntyre had a large lead ahead of the final round. Then he lost everything and had to see the world number one Scottie Scheffler excel to victory in the second playoff tournament on the PGA tour. Right now I want to smash my golf clubs, says MacIntyre.

Robert MacIntyre led with four strokes ahead of world number one Scottie Scheffler and six strokes ahead of Ludvig Åberg before the final round of the second tournament in the PGA Tour playoffs.

After five holes on Sunday on the course in Owings Mills, Maryland, the lead had disappeared. Then the Scot had made three bogeys.

"Terrible start"

I had a completely terrible start, says MacIntyre.

Before the 17th hole, he was only one stroke behind Scheffler, but then the world number one made a brilliant shot. Scheffler sank a chip from just over 25 meters for birdie on the par 3 hole and the victory was secured.

When he sank the chip on the 17th and then hit a perfect drive on the 18th, it was over, says MacIntyre.

Right now I want to go and smash my golf clubs, if I'm being honest, continues the Scot.

Scheffler won with 15 strokes under par – two ahead of MacIntyre. Ludvig Åberg was alone in third place before Sunday, but had a tough day. He came in with three strokes over par for the day after finishing with a bogey and a double bogey. With a total of –7, the Swede finished tied for seventh.

Ready for the tour final

Åberg was already before the tournament in Owing Mills ready for this week's tour final at East Lake in Atlanta, which the top 30 on the Fedex Cup ranking get to play.

World number one Scheffler gets over 34 million kronor for the win and with, among other things, five tour wins, including two major tournaments, the American has earned close to 229 million kronor this season. In addition, the 29-year-old has earned around 219 million kronor in bonuses.

The winner of this week's tour final gets almost 96 million kronor in prize money.
