David Coote was fired in December after a film became public where he expresses himself offensively about Liverpool's former manager Jürgen Klopp.
Now Coote is blaming, among other things, that he "was not sober" when the film was recorded, but also tells that his attempts to accept his homosexuality, while wanting to hide it from the outside world, have played a part.
My sexuality is not the only reason that led me to this. But I'm not telling the whole story if I don't say that I'm gay and that I've struggled to try to hide it, says Coote to The Sun.
Coote says that the film was recorded four years ago with some friends and that he had forgotten about it.
Shortly after the scandal video became known, a new film was published where Coote could be seen taking cocaine in connection with the European Championship last year. Coote admits to having abused the drug.
There have been long periods when I haven't used it, but it was an escape I had. Just to get away from the stress and the hard pressure that comes with the job. But I feel great shame over taking that path, says Coote to the newspaper.
