On February 11, Ishaq was sentenced by the Stockholm District Court to 12 years in prison for genocide, crimes against humanity, and grave war crimes committed in Syria in 2015.
Now, prosecutor Reena Devgun is seeking a life sentence for the woman, alternatively a longer fixed-term sentence. According to Devgun, there are several reasons for a stricter sentence.
"Among other things, that crimes against humanity have not previously been tried by a Swedish court and that a regular enslavement, which I believe was the case, should be valued at a higher sentence," she says in a press release.
