Coe is one of seven candidates to become the new chairman of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) after Thomas Bach.
If he wins the election in March next year, the Olympic movement may face major changes.
This is what Coe says in an interview with BBC.
Among other things, he opens up to moving handball to the Winter Olympic Games.
Climate change will force us to rethink when it comes to the global schedule, where we place our events and when during the year we hold them. Some have even suggested that we should look at the balance between the Winter and Summer Games, Coe tells BBC.
There are some summer sports that are decided indoors. Those can be moved to another time of year, maybe to the Winter Olympic Games.
Handball is one of the sports that could be affected.
This is something I encourage debate about, because it's only then that we can discard what doesn't work, says Coe.
Handball players often complain about the tough championship schedule. Especially during Olympic years when players barely get any vacation.
If Olympic handball is moved to the winter, it could replace the World Championship or European Championship every fourth year.
Handball has been on the Olympic program since Munich 1972.
