The Police Warn of Treats Ahead of Halloween

Pieces of wire, screws, and staples were found in candy given to children in Västerås. The police are urging extra caution ahead of Halloween. You can squeeze the candy a bit extra to see that there's nothing weird in it, says press spokesperson Roland Komaromi.

Over the weekend, a group of around seven 10-year-old children went around the residential area of Lillhamra in Västerås, playing the "trick or treat" game. When the children came home to eat their treats, the discoveries were made.

None of the children ate any of the treats or needed to seek medical attention. It was quickly discovered that something was amiss when they started eating, says Roland Komaromi, press spokesperson for the police region Mitt.

The police have initiated a preliminary investigation into endangering others and are currently mapping out where the children have been. No one has been suspected yet. Ahead of the upcoming Halloween weekend, the police are warning people after the incident and urging extra caution.

I absolutely think that children should be allowed to play "trick or treat". But maybe do it in neighborhoods where you know the area and know who lives where. It also doesn't hurt if a parent can tag along, says Roland Komaromi.
