For several years, Akademiska Hospital in Uppsala has mixed up a man's and his brother's medical records. Now, the Parliamentary Ombudsman (JO) is criticizing the hospital, reports SVT News Uppsala.
It was in connection with the man requesting documents from the district court that he discovered information in his medical record that belonged to his younger brother.
The information included personal identity numbers, hospital stays, and assaults on healthcare staff.
The two men have been sentenced to forensic psychiatric care.
The authority is now directing sharp criticism at the hospital. Several chief physicians are being criticized for entering incorrect information, and it has been going on since 2017. The JO believes it is "extremely serious" that decisions regarding compulsory care have been made based on the mixed-up information.
Tea Sundsten, head of psychiatry at Akademiska Hospital, thinks what happened is regrettable and responds to the criticism.
We see that this is about the human factor and cannot find any other explanation. But we share the JO's view that this is serious, she says to SVT News.
