The net is set up in the plenary hall at the part of the audience stand where the public is allowed to sit. The net can be likened to the one found on football arenas.

The reason is the attack that occurred three weeks ago when pro-Palestinian activists threw a bag of tomatoes at Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M) during a debate.

The Speaker of the Riksdag Andreas Norlén has stated that the net is a temporary solution. There will also be an increased police presence in and around the stand and at the entrance.

The work is expected to be completed by the end of the week, with a new debate on the situation in the Middle East scheduled for Friday.
