The Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs advises against non-essential travel in the Rubavu district of Rwanda. The decision was made on Tuesday, citing the security situation, and applies until further notice, according to a press release.
Rubavu, located in the northwestern parts of Rwanda, borders the neighboring country of Congo-Kinshasa, where fighting has intensified in recent days between the country's military and the M23 rebel group.
Rwanda's second-largest city, Gisenyi, with a quarter of a million inhabitants, is located in the affected district. The city is merged with the million-city Goma on the other side of the border, which M23 claims to control.
