The government's policy leads to increased emissions and exacerbates the dangerous disruption in the climate system, according to the Green Party.
I mean that the government is violating the climate law by not working towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions, says Katarina Luhr, climate policy spokesperson for the Green Party.
As examples of political measures that have contributed to increased emissions, she mentions the abolished climate bonus for electric cars and the reduced reduction obligation.
The climate law was created so that the government cannot delay measures and avoid responsibility, but that's exactly what the government's policy is doing. It reduces the remaining emission space and it will become much harder to reach the climate goals, says Katarina Luhr.
According to statistics from SCB, greenhouse gas emissions from the Swedish economy increased by 6.4 percent during the third quarter of 2024 compared to the same quarter in 2023.
The climate law is clear. It says that policy should protect people from dangerous climate change and reduce emissions, but instead, we see them increasing.
