The severe floods that hit parts of Jönköping County last week will now be investigated.

The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) has tasked Jönköping County with examining both the consequences of the floods and the county's preparedness for extreme rainfall.

"It is essential that we review our preparedness and strategies to better address the growing threats from climate change that can affect everything from resource allocation to community safety," says Maja Coghlan, who works with natural disasters at MSB, in a press release.

Heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds swept over Jönköping County on July 10, and large amounts of rain fell in just a few hours. The storm caused flooded basements, closed roads, and stranded cars and buses.
