The conversations have been held either in the individuals' homes or at the probation office within the framework of the strategy Stop Shooting.
"The conversations have gone well and it is clear that many want to leave a violent environment", says Anton Martel at the Prison and Probation Service on the police's website.
The high conflict level in Malmö has been a fact for several months, resulting in a number of serious violent crimes. Carrying out this type of conversation concentrated on a large scale was planned earlier, but the police, the Prison and Probation Service, and the municipality believe that it is now happening at the right time.
"Some people become very taken by the seriousness of the moment, while others dismiss the image of belonging to a group", says Peter Eriksson, who is responsible for the work with this type of intervention within the police.
He believes that the conversations have had a positive effect on the conflict level in Malmö.
The strategy Stop Shooting began to be used in Malmö in 2018 after an American model. The method is based on the police, social services, and the Prison and Probation Service having a dialogue with individuals who are part of criminal groups. The message is: "We don't want you to die and we don't want you to kill".
