Mikael Niemi receives the Aniarapris, which is awarded by the Swedish Library Association. The author is rewarded for his novel "Sten i siden", which deals with how conflict in Tornedalen sets friends and family members against each other.
The Aniarapris is awarded annually since 1974 to a Swedish-language author of fiction for adults. The prize is 50,000 kronor. The prize has previously been awarded to, among others, PO Enquist, Kerstin Ekman, and Bodil Malmsten. The prize will be awarded on November 21.
Mikael Niemi had his major breakthrough in 2000 with the novel "Populärmusik från Vittula", which received the August Prize.
