The UN has appealed for more money for Lebanon, which has been severely affected since Israel's raids began. Now, Sweden is providing an additional humanitarian support of 83.5 million kronor.
"Over one million people in Lebanon need acute humanitarian support. Hundreds of thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes. Sweden is therefore supporting organizations on site that meet people's basic needs", says Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Benjamin Dousa (M) in a comment.
According to Dousa, the money will go towards everything from blankets and mattresses to emergency healthcare and ambulances.
The support is distributed between the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), the Lebanese Red Cross, Save the Children, and the UN's humanitarian country fund in Lebanon.
According to the government, this means that Sweden's humanitarian aid to the country will more than double for 2024, to a total of 158.3 million kronor.
On Friday, the USA announced that it will provide nearly 157 million dollars, equivalent to around 1.6 billion kronor, in new support to Lebanon.
The money, according to the US Department of State, will among other things help people fleeing within the country, as well as those fleeing to neighboring Syria.
