Sweden has now been approved as a new member of the EU's prosecutor cooperation, Eppo.
"I welcome today's decision, which confirms Sweden's participation. With 24 member countries participating in the extended cooperation, the prosecutor's role as the main actor in the fight against fraud against the EU's budget will be further strengthened", says EU Justice Commissioner Didier Reynders in a statement.
The government decided earlier this year to join the cooperation after long hesitation about its usefulness.
It's about being part of a context that combats corruption, economic crime and other cross-border crimes, and where we have a strong interest in pushing back against crime, said Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer (The Moderate Party) in January.
Outside Eppo, only Denmark and Ireland, which have been exempted from participating in EU judicial cooperation, and Hungary, which has chosen not to participate for political reasons, remain.
