Sweden's women's volleyball team has qualified for the World Championship for the first time, reports SVT. The advancement was definitively confirmed on Friday, when Thailand was appointed as the sole host nation for the World Championship to be held in August next year.
For the first time, the World Championship will be held with 32 teams, and Sweden is one of the teams that qualifies through the world ranking, where Sweden is ranked 24th.
With the World Championship advancement, the women's national team writes another chapter in Swedish volleyball history, a fantastic proof of all hard work. The World Championship will be an exciting challenge and an important test ahead of the European Championship on home soil in 2026 in Gothenburg, says Simon Dahl, Secretary-General of the Swedish Volleyball Federation, to SVT.
