China, Myanmar, and Thailand have recently collaborated to stop fraud centers that have cheated millions of euros out of victims through, among other things, false investment schemes and romantic scams.
Hundreds of thousands of people from, among others, Southeast Asia are estimated to have worked at similar operations in Myanmar, Cambodia, and Laos. Many of them have been recruited under false pretenses about other jobs.
The facilities are run by criminal gangs with foreign labor. Many of the suspected fraudsters have stated that they have been subjected to trafficking and forced to cheat people through internet fraud.
Initially, there are plans to bring home 1,041 Chinese citizens with 16 aircraft.
