It was on March 10, 2024, that passersby found a large sports bag in a forest area on Värmdö, west of Stockholm. In the bag, wrapped in plastic bags, lay a 37-year-old man who is believed to have been murdered three days earlier.
Now, a 25-year-old woman and her 20-year-old brother-in-law are being prosecuted at Nacka District Court for murder. The woman's 26-year-old brother is being prosecuted for gross protection of a criminal.
According to the prosecutors, the motive has been honor-related.
The woman and the victim had previously had a relationship, and this had come to the knowledge of her husband and immediate family. A relatively short time later, the plaintiff was killed in the couple's then-residence in Nacka, says prosecutor Björn Heidebrandt to TT.
Children in the residence
According to the indictment, the man was beaten and stabbed, and died as a result of a deep cut wound in the neck. In the apartment or in its "immediate vicinity" were the woman's two small children at the time of the murder.
The woman and the 20-year-old are also being prosecuted for gross desecration of a grave.
We claim that the victim was covered with plastic bags and then placed in a bag that was transported from the residence and placed in a forest area on Värmdö.
After the murder, the suspects fled abroad. The woman was arrested in May in the USA and extradited to Sweden in November. The woman's brother, who allegedly drove the co-defendants from Sweden to Germany after the murder, was arrested in March at the border between Mexico and the USA.
The husband is wanted
The woman's husband is detained in his absence and internationally wanted for murder and gross desecration of a grave. The couple's two small children have also left Sweden.
We have no knowledge of where the husband or children are, says Heidebrandt.
The prosecutors are demanding that the woman, who has permanent residence, be deported from Sweden. The other defendants are Swedish citizens.
