Strömmer had called a meeting with the Police Authority on Friday afternoon to get a current situation report and an account of the measures being taken in the short and long term.
During the month of January, there has been an average of one explosion per day. That development must naturally be broken, says Gunnar Strömmer to TT after the meeting.
Just in the past few days, six explosions have occurred, including in Eskilstuna, Malmö, and Stockholm – where two people were injured, one seriously.
Same methodology
At the same time as the number of explosions has increased sharply, the deadly shootings have decreased. Strömmer says that the police are now using the same methodology against the explosions as against gun violence, and mentions, among other things, information sharing and mobilization of large resources.
In that way, there are good opportunities to push back this violence.
He further says that it's about stopping the access to explosive materials through increased control and stricter rules.
And in the police's case, of course, with very active intelligence work so that you can make large seizures of this type of explosive material.
The Minister of Justice also thinks that an important part is to strangle the recruitment of children and young people in the digital environment.
The S demands cooperation
Prior to the meeting, the Social Democrats demanded that the Minister of Justice and the police inform the Riksdag about the situation and cooperate with the opposition on solutions to stop the crimes.
"We are in a national crisis that requires unity and consensus", says the party's legal policy spokesperson Teresa Carvalho in a written comment to TT.
The police in Stockholm, where many of the recent explosions have taken place, write in a press release that a number of crimes in the capital area are linked to extortion against entrepreneurs.
The police also state that they have stopped several more crimes and detained young people who were likely on their way to commit serious violent crimes.
