The eleven projects could have together supplied the entire paper and pulp industry with electricity, according to a press release from the industry organization Svensk Vindenergi.
In total, 16 municipal decisions on wind power were made during the first half of the year - in the initial phase or later in the decision-making process. In twelve cases, the municipalities said no. The Armed Forces said no to three projects, so only the plans for Storåsen in Ånge municipality have moved forward.
Before a wind power project can receive a permit, the affected municipalities must approve. The municipality can give notice before a permit application is submitted, or during the review process - and can also exercise veto power all the way until the matter is finally settled.
Svensk Vindenergi wants the government to change the regulations so that the decision-making process becomes more predictable and that tax revenues from wind power go to the affected municipalities.
