Inflation for food and non-alcoholic beverages amounted to 5.1 percent in July and sales development is estimated to 1.1 percent, according to the trade organization Swedish Retail and Wholesale Association's Daily Goods Index.
Sales in the daily goods trade developed positively in July. Although inflation for food is still relatively high, an increased amount of sold goods and services was noted after a few months with falling volumes.
Sales in e-commerce have increased more in July, by 7.8 percent, than sales in stores where the increase was 6.1 percent.
E-commerce's share of daily goods sales was 3.0 percent in July, which was a lower share than in the previous months of the year.
"This is a common trend during the summer when consumers' purchasing behavior is more spontaneous", says Karin Brynell, CEO of Swedish Retail and Wholesale Association, in a press release.
