The Swiss chocolate manufacturer Lindt may move the production of its world-famous, gold-coated Easter bunnies to the USA to avoid the import duties that the Trump administration has introduced.
People with insight into the matter tell Bloomberg that there are plans to invest $10 million, equivalent to almost 96 million kronor, to be able to manufacture bunnies, Santa Clauses and other hollow chocolate figures in the USA.
All these products are currently manufactured in Germany and can, according to the customs duties that Trump and the EU have agreed on, be subject to American import duties of 15 percent.
The average price of Lindt's chocolate products has already been increased by 16 percent during the first half of the year due to the significant price increase of cocoa.
Lindt has declined to comment on the plans for production relocation.
