It is very urgent now to ensure that the competence that already exists is utilized. This applies not least to all the skilled people from outside the EU who have work permits that are now at risk of expiring, says Marie Nilsson, union president for IF Metall.

Worried members contact the union every day, she says.

It is up to the government to find solutions in this situation.

Labour immigrants have only three months to find a new job after a dismissal. Ardalan Shekarabi, labour market policy spokesperson, reminds that The Moderate Party and IF Metall already in the spring demanded an exception for Northvolt employees.

If they manage to leave before the new owner Lytens gets the business up and running, not only the company but also Swedish growth will be affected, he emphasizes.
