Sara Stridsberg's novel "Beckomberga - an ode to my family" becomes the novel of the year in "Stockholm reads".

This is a project driven by Stockholm City Library and the Writers' Centre East. Each year, a novel set in Stockholm is selected, which is intended to "create a proximity between literature, the city, and its inhabitants".

Sara Stridsberg portrays the large mental hospitals of the 1980s from the perspective of the girl Jackie, who visits her father Jim. According to the jury, the novel captures "the essence of human vulnerability and strength" while Stridsberg "portrays the immense human vulnerability that arose from the collapse of Swedish psychiatry".

During the year, book circles about the novel will be arranged, among other things. The entire project is described as a gigantic reading circle for Stockholm. Last year's novel was "The Beginning of Everything" by Karolina Ramqvist.
