Odeh's visa application was rejected by the Swedish consulate in Jerusalem. Odeh appealed to the migration court which followed the consulate's line.
The rejection mentions the deteriorated situation on the West Bank, as well as the fact that Ranin Odeh being single and not having any children would make her connection in Jenin weaker.
The Swedish friendship association of Frihetsteatern and the union Scen och film have now written a request to the Swedish consulate in Jerusalem.
They are not sure that she will return. But she has made several trips even since the war started, and always returned, says the chairman of the friendship association Ann Marie Engel to GP.
The chairman of Scen och film Simon Norrthon emphasizes to GP that the consulate should promote the artistic exchange.
They deny her on such unclear grounds. Sweden has had collaborations with Frihetsteatern for 20 years, neither Ranin Odeh nor other employees have any history of being absent without leave, he says.
Frihetsteatern was founded in 2006 and aims to make life bearable for children and young people growing up in the refugee camp in Jenin through theater, photography and art, but also sees itself as part of the Palestinian freedom movement.
