The Stenhammar competition is shutting down. The board of the opera competition has decided not to hold next year's competition for financial reasons.
"The decision is extremely disappointing, since we know how appreciated the competition has been during the 20 years we have been running it", says the competition's founder and artistic director Sonja Stenhammar in a press release.
In order for the competition to be able to resume in the future, a new board as well as more financial resources are required, according to the board.
The competition, which started in 2006, has been named after the composer Wilhelm Stenhammar and has had the purpose of giving young singers from all over the world a boost in their career.
