A video clip shows how the 30-year-old – one of the biggest stars in American football – is taken down to the ground by a traffic police officer while having his arms behind his back and his hands in handcuffs. This happened just hours before Sunday's premiere at home against Jacksonville.
He is said to have been stopped for speeding and reckless driving on his way to the arena, but was released without being formally charged with any crime. Hill himself was puzzled as to why he was stopped and handcuffed.
I have no idea, honestly. No idea. It was crazy, said the Miami player.
Miami was trailing 0-14 after the first half, but in the second half Hill ran in an 80-yard touchdown. He celebrated by putting his arms behind his back and letting a teammate "put on" handcuffs.
In the end, Miami won against Jacksonville with 20-17 after a decisive field goal in the final stages of the match.
The Miami police later stated that one of the police officers involved in Hill's arrest had been temporarily taken out of service.
