Behind the report stands the pro-Palestinian organization Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF), which has documented hundreds of Israeli soldiers' actions in Gaza, reports CNN.
As a result of this report, a Brazilian judge decided to initiate an investigation against the soldier, who was on vacation in the Latin American country. The decision was made on December 30, but only became known a week later.
On Sunday, the Israeli Foreign Ministry issued a statement saying that the country's Foreign Minister Gideon Saar had acted to "ensure that the Israeli citizen was not in danger" after "anti-Israeli elements" started an investigation. The Israeli embassy in Brazil writes that they had arranged for the ex-soldier's "quick and safe departure from Brazil".
HRF has reported Israeli soldiers visiting several countries, including Thailand, Sri Lanka, and Chile. So far, there are no confirmed reports that any soldier has been detained as a result of the reports.
