The account in question goes by the name Storstadspojkarna and went viral on Tiktok as early as 2023. In expensive down jackets and sunglasses, three young guys are seen walking around and dancing – to the tunes of Kent's "Pärlor".
We've got a new generation listening to Kent. Many parents have probably been surprised to find their kids putting on Kent in the car, says Oskar Eriksson, who together with William Viking Nordström and Jacob Öhman make up Storstadspojkarna.
Based on their style, many would probably call them "grisch" – something they themselves agree with.
We hang out at Stureplan clubs, eat out and burn money. It's just as much a lifestyle as a fashion style, says Jacob Öhman.
Standing out
It's not a style previously associated with Kent, and that's exactly why they think the videos have become so popular.
People probably think the contrast is funny. Many perceive Kent as a left-wing band, so it clashes a bit with our style, says William Viking Nordström.
Oscar Eriksson believes their account stands out.
A lot on Tiktok is about promoting new music, so people were probably surprised when they heard Kent and thought: what's this? Then they started listening.
When Kent announced in October last year that they would be returning with new performances, they, not unexpectedly, got a boost on Spotify. Less expected was that almost a quarter of the listeners were between 18 and 27 years old.
"Not a coincidence"
Storstadspojkarna themselves claim that their account has given Kent's music new life.
It can't be a coincidence. Those who have always listened to Kent are still doing so, the increase is probably rather among the many younger ones who have joined.
Aino Oxblod, journalist and die-hard Kent fan, has also stumbled upon the viral account in her feed.
They may have increased interest in the music among young people, since many of them are on Tiktok, she says.
But that Kent has the guys to thank for their upswing is something she's not as sure about. Instead, she believes that young people are drawn to the band because the music is timeless.
They've never followed trends but have always done their own thing, and then you never become outdated. People will always be attracted to Kent's music.
After the performances, an official after-party will be held, where Storstadspojkarna will be present with a DJ set. When asked what they'll be playing, they respond in unison:
Kent!
But we might mix in some other stuff too.
After being active for 26 years, Kent announced in 2016 that they would be disbanding. But now they're gathering on stage again for six concerts at 3Arena in Stockholm on March 21-23 and 25-27.
The band emphasizes that it's not about a reunion and that no new music will be recorded.
The official after-party will be held at Berns in Stockholm after the concert on Saturday.
Besides Storstadspojkarna, Fredrik Strage, Klubb Socker, and Bad Reputation will be present as DJs. The Kent choir will also take the stage.
