The character appears in the recently launched "Mario kart world" and depicts a cow with a nose ring – which Peta claims is "a painful reminder of the cruelty that cows are subjected to in the dairy and meat industry".

In a letter to the Japanese gaming giant, the animal rights organization writes that "nose rings are used to exploit and control animals, and cause them lasting pain and discomfort" – which is why the organization urges Nintendo to reform the character to one without a nose ring.

Peta has previously criticized Nintendo's game "Animal crossing: new horizons" for encouraging abusive behavior towards animals and in 2017 said that the gaming giant "sold its soul" after they entered into a collaboration with McDonalds.

Nintendo has not yet publicly responded to the criticism.
