So the Social Democrats want to win back voters – and power

The Social Democratic Party's leadership has now received over 200 proposals for new policies – and a large part of them concern tougher integration policies. This will be the foundation when the party tries to regain government power.

Last year, the party set up eleven working groups to come up with new proposals. They have now delivered a comprehensive package, which will be dealt with by the S-congress next year.

This is the largest political reform effort that our party has undertaken in decades, says party secretary Tobias Baudin.

He does not want to point out any individual proposals that he feels particularly strongly about or thinks are particularly important.

Get rid of vulnerable areas

A large part of the proposals – 86 of them – deal with integration.

The segregation and vulnerable areas that Sweden has today are completely unsustainable, says Lawen Redar, who has been responsible for the group that has developed new integration policy.

The proposals include, among other things, a more controlled integration process, where Redar and her colleagues once and for all want to abolish the right of asylum seekers to settle in any municipality they choose. Other proposals deal with school and the importance of learning Swedish.

When it comes to gang crime, proposals include, among other things, a new penalty that ultimately means that young people who do not behave can be imprisoned for life, a new Swedish anti-mafia legislation, and a program for risk families.

Win the countryside

One of the reasons why S started this large effort is that the party wants to be more in tune with the times. For example, the party has lost traditional voters in industrial towns and rural areas, who often feel "forgotten".

One of the proposals to counteract this is that there should be police officers in every municipality. A costly proposal, like all other proposals from the working groups, which does not have a price tag.

Total stop for allocation of newly arrived to vulnerable areas.

Income requirement for those who want to move to a vulnerable area.

Prioritization in the housing queue for academics to apartments in vulnerable areas.

Language requirement for staff in preschools.

Free public transport for children and young people.

National mobile phone ban for increased safety and study environment in schools.

Abolish the grade F and focus the curriculum on basic knowledge, not abstract thinking.

A police station in every municipality – staffed around the clock.

At least one bank in every municipality.

100 percent increase in the infrastructure budget.

Class fathers for increased parental involvement. Parents should be able to receive compensation for participating in school.

Sweden card for a maximum of 500 kronor per month for everyone up to 26 years old. Applies to public transport throughout the country.

Electric cars for ordinary people. People who earn up to 28,000 kronor should have the opportunity to lease an electric car for 1,500 kronor per month.

Gradually introduce a 35-hour workweek by 2035.

Introduce a Swedish anti-mafia legislation.

New penalty for young people in the form of special probation. Not time-limited, but every six months, it will be assessed whether the young person risks committing further crimes.

In total, the working groups have submitted over 200 proposals.
