A political struggle in Slovenia risks further delaying the next EU Commission.
The country's parliament has not yet formally approved the intended EU Commissioner Marta Kos, since the opposition has demanded explanations about the pressure exerted when Kos was nominated instead of the initially appointed Tomaz Vesel.
Thus, there is a clear risk that Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will be forced to postpone her commission presentation once again. The plan is for the German to report on the process to the EU Parliament's group leaders on Tuesday. However, the delay in Slovenia makes it uncertain whether she will also be able to announce who will do what in the new commission.
The delay contributes to the EU Parliament's hearings of the new commissioners likely starting in November, according to the news site Politico Europe. This means that it may not be until the turn of the year before Swedish Jessika Roswall (The Moderate Party) and her colleagues take office.
