Sigourney Weaver receives this year's Golden Lion for her lifetime achievement in filmmaking at the Venice Film Festival.
"A star who has built bridges between the most sophisticated arthouse films and films that engage the general public in a sincere and original way, while remaining true to herself", says festival director Alberto Barbera in a statement.
The 74-year-old Weaver, known from films such as "Alien", "Ghostbusters" and "Gorillas in the Mist", is currently starring in the upcoming "Dust bunny" alongside Mads Mikkelsen, as well as several planned "Avatar" films.
The Venice Film Festival takes place between August 28 and September 7.
