The alpine star Mikaela Shiffrin announced on Saturday that she had undergone an "unexpected" surgical procedure due to a complication in her recovery from her abdominal injury.
It was in a crash in the American Killington at the end of November that Shiffrin injured herself, with puncture wounds and muscle injuries.
In an Instagram post, the 29-year-old star reveals that she was forced to undergo an operation to treat her injury.
"Had a little unexpected operation on Thursday evening after feeling a bit stuck," she writes, and continues:
"It turned out that I had a small cavity filled with old blood accumulation that wasn't draining properly."
