Several people have died after a boat sank when it passed over a river in eastern Afghanistan on Saturday morning.
"Eight people died and two are still missing," says an official in Nangarhar province.
Earlier in the day, at least 20 people were reported to have died, but the death toll was later reduced.
According to the latest reports, 16 people have been rescued by civilians and authorities. Around 10 of them were injured and several have been taken to hospitals.
The province's deputy governor says the boat was overcrowded with passengers, which caused water to flood in and the engine to stop.
Residents in the area often use locally built boats to travel between villages and local markets.
