Seven people have died in a rockfall in a copper mine in central Kazakhstan, the rescue service reports.

The report of the rockfall at a depth of 640 meters in the Ulytau region came on Monday evening. Rescue personnel were sent there, also from the neighboring region of Karaganda.

The company that owns the mine is the country's largest copper producer.

Mine accidents are not uncommon in Kazakhstan, despite efforts to improve safety.
