Several runners set records when they ran a marathon at Knarvik Stadium in Norway. But on Tuesday, the participants received the message that the track was too short, writes NRK.
The competition took place on June 22 in Alver municipality, north of Bergen. Over 300 runners had gathered from all over the country to run a marathon and half-marathon.
Several of the runners set records, but a few days later, an email came down with information that the track had been measured almost a kilometer too short. Thus, the participants were also deprived of their record times.
At first, I was a bit surprised and thought it couldn't be as bad as it actually turned out to be, says participant Lina Rivedal to the newspaper.
Ronny Borgen Hansen, general director of the race, admits that it felt "pretty embarrassing".
It's simply a matter of human error, he says.
The participants will get to keep their medal and participate for free in next year's edition of the competition.
