"A Russian military airbase has been attacked near Majkop", says Andrij Kovalenko at Ukraine's Centre Against Disinformation on Telegram.
He has also published a video clip where smoke rises over the roofs in the city and dark smoke is seen on the horizon.
According to reports, a fuel and lubricant depot at the base, about 40 miles from the front line, was destroyed.
After the attack, "security measures have been tightened" and the residents have been evacuated, says the city's mayor.
Russia's military claims to have shot down 92 Ukrainian drones during the night against Thursday, most of them over the country's southwestern parts.
It is not uncommon with Russian reports of Ukrainian drones being stopped, but usually, it is reported that significantly fewer are stopped.
Over the Krasnodar region, 47 drones were shot down, according to the Russian Defence Ministry. An additional 15 were stopped over the Azov Sea, 12 over the border region of Kursk, and the rest over other regions near Ukraine's border.
According to Ukraine, the drone attacks are carried out as a response to Russian bombings in Ukraine.
