Tottenham's midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur risks being punished by the English Football Association (FA) for statements he made about his teammate Son Heung-Min last summer.
The FA announced on Thursday that a disciplinary case has been initiated against Bentancur. He is accused of using inappropriate and offensive words in a TV interview.
The rule violation is considered serious since his statements were linked to nationality, race, and ethnic origin.
The controversial words came when a program host asked Bentancur if he could get a Tottenham jersey.
Sonny's? It could also have been his cousin's, because everyone looks exactly alike, said Bentancur and pointed to his South Korean teammate.
Bentancur later apologized to Son on his Instagram, for what he called a "very bad joke".
He has until September 19 to respond to the allegations.
