Yu Zidi made a breakthrough in the Chinese World Championship qualifications earlier this year when she performed world-class times in three events and qualified for the World Championship.
I will continue to work harder and hope for a breakthrough in the World Championship and that I can show my potential, she says.
A age limit of 14 years has been introduced in the World Championship, but if you meet the qualification limits, you are given a dispensation to compete.
Now she came to the start, a little smaller and a little thinner than most of the others.
About competing in the World Championship as a twelve-year-old, she says:
It feels really good, it's more than I had expected. You feel that the intensity is quite high here. I try not to think too much and just give it my all.
The Chinese has performed times that are even more impressive on the 400 meter medley and 200 meter butterfly which will be decided later during the World Championship.
