One should exercise great caution when lighting fires, urges on-duty meteorologist Emma Härenstam. This also applies to outdoor work with machines that can spark.
It is primarily the strong wind and sunny weather that causes last year's grass to dry out very quickly and gives rise to it easily igniting. With the wind's help, a fire can spread very quickly, says Emma Härenstam.
A yellow warning for wind has also been issued for the afternoon for Västernorrland County and parts of Jämtland County. The warning also applies to the mountainous regions of Jämtland, Härjedalen, and the southernmost Lapland mountains. The wind is expected to die down at night.
