One of the two brothers who were wrongly accused of four-year-old Kevin's death over 25 years ago, Robin Dahlén, is now reducing the damages claim against Arvika Municipality in the highly publicized case, reports P4 Värmland.
From previously demanding three million, Dahlén is now demanding one million.
It's not the money that Robin is after. He has said throughout the entire procedure that what he wants most is an apology and for someone from the municipality to take responsibility, says his lawyer Stefan Liliebäck.
The municipality's legal representative Jonathan Peduru-Aratchi tells P4 Värmland that he welcomes the announcement – but also claims that it comes too late in the process.
So, it's two-thirds of the claim that is being withdrawn, he says.
The four-year-old boy Kevin was found dead on a beach in Arvika in 1998. The brothers Robin Dahlén and Christian Karlsson, then five and seven years old, were suspected of killing him.
The police believed that the brothers had confessed, and the case was closed. However, the suspicions were never tried in court, not even through a so-called witness statement that can be made against children.
Nearly 20 years after Kevin's death, the investigation was reopened, with a new prosecutor, following several media investigations.
The chief prosecutor then dismissed the initial police investigation.
In March 2022, the government gave the accused brothers one million kronor each in compensation for the state's wrongdoing. The compensation was given ex gratia ("out of favor").
