Francis, 88 years old, has been treated for double-sided pneumonia and further complications at the Gemelli Hospital in Rome.

"Pope Francis wants to wave and give a blessing from the Agostino Gemelli Hospital after the Angelus prayer has been held", writes the Vatican in a statement. During the Angelus prayer, bell-ringing also takes place, and it usually takes place at 12 o'clock on Sundays.

Usually, it is an opportunity for the Pope, in addition to the blessing, to also comment on current issues.

In a statement on Saturday evening from the Pope's doctor, it was stated that Francis will be discharged from the hospital on Sunday, but that he needs "at least two months of convalescence", reports AP.

The signal from the Vatican about the Pope's condition, which has been critical on several occasions, shows that Francis intends to try to participate in the intense religious ceremonies before and during Easter week.
