It has been a wet summer in Denmark. According to Denmark's Meteorological Institute (DMI), July was the tenth wettest July month ever measured in the country, reports several Danish media.

On average throughout the country, 112.9 millimeters of rain fell. July two years ago was the rainiest so far, with 140.9 millimeters according to P4 Malmöhus, and last year 114.3 millimeters fell.

This means that all July months during the last three years have ended up on the country's top list.

In July this year, most rain has fallen in the Korsör area on northwest Zealand.

– Here 238 millimeters have come in July. It's really a lot, and unusual, says Flemming Vejen at DMI to the news agency Ritzau.

Other areas where it has rained a lot are South Jutland and South Zealand. North Jutland is one of the areas where the least rain has fallen. The rainy weather also seems to continue into August.

On Friday, large amounts of precipitation have led to Festival Ringsted on Zealand being forced to close because the safety of the festival's participants cannot be guaranteed.

It has come really a lot of rain, and there are also lightning and thunder on the way, says the festival's safety manager Henrik Stadager to Danmarks Radio.
