Brazil's federal police accuse in their final report the country's former president Jair Bolsonaro and 36 other individuals of involvement in a coup attempt following the election defeat in 2022.
The police investigation was submitted on Thursday to the country's highest court, which will refer it to the prosecutor-general for a decision on prosecution and trial.
The investigation has revealed that Bolsonaro and 36 others planned to "use violence to overthrow the democratic state", according to a police statement. The police recommend in their final report that charges be brought against the suspected coup plotters.
The Brazilian ex-president was in the USA when violent riots took place in the South American country's capital, but is accused of being the instigator behind the riots. Bolsonaro himself has denied involvement.
