A police chief in Gävleborg is dismissed after being convicted of data intrusion, reports P4 Gävleborg. The decision was made by the police's personnel responsibility board.
It was in November last year that the police chief was convicted of four cases of unlawful data intrusion after making illegal searches in the Police Authority's IT system.
The sentence was a fine of a total of 7,500 kronor. This with reference to the fact that he would likely lose his job as a result of the conviction.
The background is that the police chief's child was subjected to a robbery in March 2022. Shortly thereafter, he made a series of searches in the IT system and registers. Since the searches were not deemed necessary for work, they were considered data intrusion according to the prosecutor.
The district court acquitted him, citing that he had acted in an emergency situation and out of concern for his relative, but the court of appeal changed the verdict and convicted the man.
