The Västra Götaland Region has established a photography scholarship in the spirit of Elisabeth Ohlson.
The controversial photographer was "a fearless and committed voice for freedom of expression and human rights", writes the region's cultural committee in a press release.
The scholarship of 100,000 kronor will be awarded to an artist residing and active in Västra Götaland, who through photography-based art works in her spirit. This year's scholarship holder will be presented in June.
Elisabeth Ohlson passed away at the end of October last year, 63 years old. She began her professional life as a press photographer, but shifted to an artistic path and had her major breakthrough with the controversial photo exhibition "Ecce Homo" in 1998.
