The football icon Pepe is ending his career. The 41-year-old confirms this on his Instagram.
Portugal's quarterfinal against France, which they lost, was thus Pepe's last appearance on the football pitch.
The centre-back has played for Maritimo, Porto, Besiktas and Real Madrid. In the latter club, which he joined in 2007, Pepe won, among other things, three league titles, two cup titles, and the Champions League three times.
In Portugal's national team, he played 141 matches and won a European Championship gold in 2016.
